With Kindle ebooks bringing out the old, I'm having a blast. Realizing afresh how much more complex the vocabulary was for YA and middle grade books back then. Yep, lots of writing today has gone for simpler words, which is a shame, at least to me. Despite the era they are written in, they are as fresh today as then, with growing up, getting in trouble, and learning to live with family. Otherwise Phyllis is a good example. I'm working through this author because I like her style. Give them a read.

Added plus: If you want to get some vocabulary building out of them, have your kids (or you) read them and look up the words and make them your own. Okay, that was a teacher who couldn't resist.
